Stargazed - Shadow Electric - 9 Apr 2016

"“Stargazed” Video Art, Shoegaze & Psych Music Festival
Stargazed is a collaboration between Video Art & Music that celebrates ideas of a darker and experimental nature. The intention an philosophy behind the festival is to challenge the way we listen and interpret music and visual art.
8 Video Artists will attempt to do just that, as they push the boundaries through exploring the possibilities and adventures that art can take us on.  Each artist has taken on the challenge of collaborating with one of the bands performing on the night, by interpreting their music into a visual & vivid language. The festival will mark the debut of this work.
Full scale, multi channel, video art projections and live visuals will engulf the audience as they intertwine with dark ethereal, shoegaze sounds delivered by a careful selection of Melbourne's finest emerging bands.
Band Lineup:  Audego, Fierce Mild, ESC, Breve, The Citradels, Beloved Elk, Masco Sound System, & Dada Ono.
Video Artists: Adele Wilkes, Stephanie Peters, Dotahn Caspi, Alana West, Mietta Mintzis, Adam Dewhirts, VJ Ka_Coffiney, & Jutta Pryor."

Performer details:

Evelyn Morris

Evelyn Morris, also known as Pikelet, is a musician from the outer suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. Although she'd played piano from a young age she began her career in music as a hardcore/punk obsessed drummer, performing in many bands but mostly in Baseball and True Radical Miracle. In 2003 she switched from drum kit to a mix of instruments and a loop pedal to start a solo career. She utilises delay pedals, piano accordion, drums, guitar and other forms of percussion in her music.

Pat O'Brien

Pat plays guitar in Mad Nanna, co-owns and runs A.G. Picks record store, presents O'Tomorrow on RRR and has recently been heard performing on a synth, which he calmly pushes to the brink.

Matthew P. Hopkins

Melbourne based artist Matthew P. Hopkins explores realms of musique concrete, electro-acoustic composition, ambient music, sound poetry, noise, and nonsense. Hopkins has released works on Penultimate Press (UK), Vittelli Records (UK), Canti Magnetici (IT), and Albert's Basement (AU).

Von Einem “The Von Einem Tapes” 2CD – The full discography of Mark Groves’ Von Einem project, issued over the past few years on varoius short-run cassettes, comes together here to represent a truly impressive minimalistic power electronics collection. The Von Einem project takes its subject matter from various documented acts of depravity purportrated around Adelaide and South Autralia – not just related to the murders that the project name references, but also numerous documented instances of murders committed by police officers. The Von Einem canon is a taut, focussed conceptual work that alludes to themes of dole-class drug cultures and ennui as gateways to violence for its own sake. Groves holds his sonic weapons close to his chest; there are none of the walls of white noise you’ve heard a million times before here. Instead, each blast and clang is laden with foreboding and dread meaning. Comes in three panel pro-printed sleeve with booklet – essential.

Decibel “Tuned Darker” LP – This album is named after a line from a poem by Louise Glück which refers to the subtle and parallel changes in light and sound. This album is an exploration of this subtleness. In it, sounds shift and morph, teetering on the edge of, and in-between, tunings. Instrumental colour is the focus of this album, in particular the way it changes in different ranges, diffusions and voices. Hope’s “Lowest Drawer” explores a slow, dark and gentle comparison of electronic and acoustic low sounds that create complex acoustic beatings as they slowly unfold. James’ “n dimension” uses samples of wavering acoustic instrumentals to create a sea of sound diffusions that explores concepts of dimensionality. Vickery’s song cycle “Night Fragments,” featuring Caitlin Cassidy, uses text by Belgian surrealist author Françilon Daniels to explore the twilight between sleep and wakefulness, with different instruments often progressing at different rates from each other using click tracks to guide them (comes with download card).

Gordoa/McNab/Myburgh "Passive Transport" CD

In February 2015, Australian musicians Michael McNab (percussion/drums) and Josten Myburgh (electronics) toured Europe, and met up with Emilio Gordoa (vibraphone), a Mexican artist residing in Berlin since 2012. They recorded a couple of hours of improvisation in Gordoa’s Berlin studio. From these raw recordings comes the two excerpts that make up Passive Transport, a delicate tapestry of extended techniques and open improvisation, with various instrument preparations and electronic treatments exorcising any expected timbres from instruments like drums or vibraphone. The result is a work of crystalline sonic beauty and tension. Available now from
