Melbourne Drone Orchestra presents: Norla Series Ed. 5/5 - FINAL ONE

The final edition of the Norla Series will focus on drone using keyboard instrumentation. In a rare event, an acoustic grand piano will be used in the Norla Dome and the full resonant scope of the piano will be realised.

Daniel Tucceri is a Melbourne/Naarm based pianist who has performed across a variety of genres with a number of notable local and international performers. He has also composed and contributed to major film soundtracks, exhibitions and art installations. Inspired by the work of Claude Debussy, he has an interest in exploring the sonority of the piano and sees the instrument as a ‘resonance chamber’. To realise its full potential in this way, Tucceri will be performing an interpretation of the Norla Drone composition performed by the various iterations of the Melbourne Drone Orchestra at the end of 2023.

Justin Ashworth will launch two projects simultaneously.
Spectrealities I-IV is a new 4 track drone album, recorded on the TransAudio ProCase6 at MESS. A contemplative, patient, and haunting collection of synth drones, it's both a standalone work, and acts as a prelude for an upcoming LP, Apophenia (coming later this year).
The performance is also a kind of soft launch for Justin's new synth quintet, featuring Katerina Stathis, Violet Aisling (Teeth Dreams), Abi Lee and Adam Rudegeair. This 5 piece synth group will reinterpret the work from Spectrealities as a new 5 channel surround piece, expanding on the established work with different oscillators and new drone textures that play with the reverberation of the Norla Dome.

Tickets available here.
