Ov Pain, Second Sight + calyx at Nighthawks 9th December

Ov pain, Second Sight and calyx perform Nighthawks Dec 9. 15 $ cash only on door.
Ov Pain – the artist couple Barrance and Player – have given us a new batch of weirdness with their latest record ‘Kauri Island’. Reading like a shortlist of haunted sonic anomies it’s an impressive follow up album to their acclaimed ‘The Churning Blue of Noon’ of2021. ‘Kauri Island’ is a work notable for its starkness and dissonance, equally, too, for its propulsive bottom-end warmth and minimalist drone.

Second Sight is the long running solo moniker of producer Noah Renolds. Noah has lent rhythms to local goth-punk outfit Grane as well as Adelaide gothers Rule Of Thirds. After a lengthy hiatus, Noah will be resurrecting Second Sight to flex a new live set over the forthcoming months. Expect a blend of quite-heavy to very-heavy rhythms.

calyx (Mollusc, Diecut, spores) brings together synthesizers, beats and found sounds with violin and vocals. A solo project germinating in and around Narrm’s long, looooong lockdown, calyx references the Cocteau Twins, Fever Ray, Fad Gadget, Einstürzende Neubauten and the Dirty Three.

Running order for the show is calyx-9 pm, Second Sight 10, Ov pain 11. The show is 15$ door sales only from 8 pm.

We acknowledge that this event is taking place on the unceded lands of the Wurunderji People of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge their elders past, present, and future.
