Munnery explores analogue synthesis, electronic music, field recordings, and noise in this show. Daniel's set will be performed with long-term mentor Stevie Richards. Richards is well known through experimental and electronic scenes for his steely and exploratory performances. ROBBIE AVENAIM performing SARPS Over the past 30 years Robbie Avenaim has recorded and performed alongside some of the worlds most innovating experimental sound artists known today. As a drummer, he has developed a unique and personal musical language for the drums, combining traditional and extended techniques with physical modification. Modifications have included extending use of various motorised percussive mechanisms and in so doing, provide greater scope for both composing and performing. As a drummer and composer, Avenaim’s musical ideas are inseparable from the instruments he conceptualises. The design of new instruments over the last 2 decades has been an integral part of the compositional process. After returning from studies in New York with renowned composer John Zorn in the 90's and observing the vibrant new music N.Y has to offer, Avenaim was inspired to foster a varied experimental music ecosystem in Australia by co-founding and organising the legendary WHAT IS MUSIC? Festival, Australia’s premier annual touring showcase of local and international experimental music from 1994-2012, which have been essential for the local growth and international prestige of Australia’s avant-garde musical reputation. Since 2017, Avenaim has developed an experimental music concert series specifically for housebound people with disabilities, called “Safe in Sound”. and is currently in the band AAA featuring pianist Chris Abrahams of the NECKS and guitarist Oren Ambarchi. The Show at Jolted Arts will feature Avenaim performing solo drums alongside his semi robotic percussion system (SARPS).
STEVIE RICHARDS Stevie Richards is a Woodwind player and DIY Electronics performer currently based in Melbourne, Australia. He has been touring Europe, the United States and South-East Asia regularly for the last 8 years and is an active participant in the avant-garde / improvisation environment of Naarm / Melbourne. He has been the sound engineer, one of several curators and a committee member of Make It Up Club in Melbourne since 2002. He started performing in the alternative music scene in Sydney in the eighties, where he found and appreciation for improvisation and electronic music. As a musician, he has moved through noise, free jazz, ambient and electroacoustic music both as a soloist and through deliberate international collaboration. Stevie performs in several solo projects and ensembles including : sl_richards , cleaninglady , Cavies ! , Richards/Palliser/Wadley to name a few. Stevie’s latest release : sl_richards : ‘closed system’ released on NCTMMRN records. This album features minimal electronic / electroacoustic material recorded on his home built DIY Buchla Music Easel and DIY Serge Modular. The series combines NDIS artists with their mentors and other artists, and adheres to JOLT Arts’ inclusive agenda.
