"Kitchen Boogie". A new video by Ernie Althoff and John Campbell

A brightly sunlit day in December 2020, a small wire basket from the kitchen, a sheet of white MDF board on which to cast shadows, and Irfan Skiljan's “IrfanView” software to take us back to the psychedelic palette of those influential 1960s Fillmore and Avalon Ballroom posters. When Ernie’s mother saw their typography in his art books, she remembered the “Jugendstil” art movement in the Vienna of her youth. Appropriation exists everywhere.

Boogie-woogie music being another case where appropriation is rife. Here, the monophonic left-hand part of “The Yancey Special”, composed by Meade “Lux” Lewis, gets a bit of a mess-around plundering by John.
