GRIST releases 3 hours of immersive mono microloop improvisations EIGHT OF EIGHT

GRIST - EIGHT OF EIGHT

ALL NEW THREE HOUR IMMERSION AVAILABLE FROM SOMBRE SONIKS

EIGHT OF EIGHT

-----------------------------------------------

 THE GRISTIAN RITUAL: an example.

an old secondhand CDJ player runs into a secondhand Kaoss Pad.  the Kaoss Pad runs into a secondhand Heavy Metal pedal so old that the black paint is flaking off and revealing the steel beneath.  the Heavy Metal pedal runs into a Loop Station.   a pile of CDs sits nearby.

a CD is selected, placed inside the CDJ, and a random track is selected.  with the volume down, the CD is turned into a small loop - still completely unheard by the Gristian Practitioner - with the use of the Kaoss Pad.

this microloop is faded up into audibility, and a longer loop of this randomised microloop is captured by the Loop Station.   this longer loop goes slowly out of synch with the shorter loop, creating Reichian phases and counterpoints, sonic interference patterns.

repeat with another (unheard) fragment of the same CD, or a completely different CD, or a slightly different microloop of the same track.   fade the same loop up as a distorted wave with the Heavy Metal pedal, adjusting the EQ on the pedal (even though the knobs have long fallen off, the potentiometer still works).  use the Kaoss Pad to sample its own microloop, then double or half the BPM to create octaves of sound.  constantly ride the volumes, so that sometimes the macroloop on the Loop Station is louder, sometimes the microloop on the Kaoss Pad is louder, to create different foci in the soundscape.

the possibilities are endless.
