austraLYSIS Duo: Roger Dean & Sandy Evans (Sydney)
The distinguished Sydney duo of Roger Dean (piano, computer, electronics) and Sandy Evans (soprano & tenor saxophones) perform in the duo format, as documented in their album, Dualling (on the Earshift label). austraLYSIS was developed by Roger Dean (piano, computers) on moving to Australia (1989), from his UK group LYSIS. From the outset it featured Sandy Evans (saxophones).
austraLYSIS now focuses entirely on improvisation and comprovisation, within and outside jazz, and also on multimedia collaborations. It has developed unusual techniques for control of rhythmic, timbral and harmonic interaction, and since 1995 has used computer interactive technology. Since 2010, austraLYSIS work has been presented in countries such as Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Romania, Singapore, UK, and the US.
