you thought Facetoucher was all over?  i'm terribly sorry, but no.

there's a new Facetoucher album called DEMONS, inspired by (and, in the second track, sampling the voice of) Naomi Wolf and her flabbergasting beliefs about the Plague and our international response to it (you know, the international response that saved all our lives).  apparently it was all ANCIENT DEMONIC FORCES!  in which case, thank you ancient demonic forces for saving all our lives, you're the best.  listen to the terrifying evil here:

DEMONS

before that, Facetoucher released an album, MUTATIONS, on the UK label Sombre Soniks.  Sombre Soniks is a label dedicated to more trancey / hypnotic / ritual / entheogenic musics, so the tracks on this album are a lot more minimalist and glitch-ambient than most Facetoucher albums - still only powered by real-time vocal improvisations and long recursions of sound, as is Facetoucher's wont.  listen to the immersive soundscapery here:

MUTATIONS

before that, Facetoucher released the album EXCESS MORTALITY, one big slab of everchanging doom and dankness dedicated to the only way official organisations can measure the damage of our current plague now that none of us are reporting it (or even doing tests anymore tbh) - by measuring how different our overall death rate is compared what it would be normally.  it's called Excess Mortality, and i thought it was the perfect title for a sludgy doom album.  listen to the sludgy doominess here:

EXCESS MORTALITY

before that, Facetoucher released the album WE ARE STILL ALIVE, which is kinda like the opposite of Excess Mortality, in that it's dedicated to all of us who didn't die, and it's a bunch of different-sounding tracks instead of one big old slab.  millions, literally millions, of people died as a direct result of the pandemic - but if you're reading this, you're someone who didn't.  so hooray.  listen to the life-affirming diversity here:

WE ARE STILL ALIVE

before that, Facetoucher released the album LUNGS, or more properly titled, 🫁.  there are a bunch of Facetoucher albums which are named with emojis, i've been calling them the "PANDEMOJI SERIES" but they don't really have much to do with each other other than they are Facetoucher albums and are named with emojis.  two long tracks which are really one longer track split into halves, one for the left lung and one for the right lung.  lungs matter!  some of my favourite breathing organs are lungs.  listen to the dual lunginess here:

🫁

before that, Facetoucher released the album PIROLA, named after another mutation of covid-19.  it's just a regular collection of Facetoucher pieces, with all the diverse and eclectic results you might expect from Facetoucher by now - voice-powered choral weirdness, glitch-ambiences, noise-heavy avant-punk, etc.  listen to the bog-standard Facetoucherisms here:

PIROLA

before that, Facetoucher released the album ERIS, named after yet another mutation of covid-19.  with Eris being the goddess of chaos and central figure in the Discordian religion, this one was a special one for me, so this release is one big noise epic, chaotic and maddening and difficult and ultimately rewarding for those brave few who make the full journey.  listen to the rampant discordian chaos here:

ERIS

before that, Facetoucher released the album PHEIC NEWS, named after a combination of the acronym for Public Health Emergency of International Concern, and the term "fake news" which of course is a term used by cookers and nutters to describe the actual real true news.  it was dedicated to the fact that covid-19 became no longer an official Public Health Emergency of International Concern.  hooray.  listen to the actual real true full album here:

 PHEIC NEWS

before that, Facetoucher released the album NOVID, dedicated to the people who have still never gotten covid-19.  good on ya.  listen to the undiseased non-ill perfectly healthy album here:

NOVID

before that, Facetoucher released the album FOCUS ON THE BREATH, released through West Australian label Dog Park Records.  two longish tracks, one dedicated to the exhale, one dedicated to the inhale.  that's all there is to breathing - in, out, in, out.  used to be so simple huh.  listen to the oxygenating life-giving album here:

FOCUS ON THE BREATH

and before that, Facetoucher released the live album SUPERSPREADER EVENT 002, which documents the SECOND-EVER LIVE GIG (please give me more gigs thanks that'd be awesome) by Facetoucher.  the gig was at 1000 Ears, in which there are three solo performances and then an all-in collaborative session - this release is only the Facetoucher alone session, but trust me, the Facetoucher / Aviva Endean / Nick Ashwood collab was amazing.  guess you had to be there!  listen to the superspreading public Facetoucher sesssion here:

SUPERSPREADER EVENT 002

and i do believe now we're all up-to-date.

hooray.

until next time!
