A NEW YEAR, A NEW DOSE OF FACETOUCHER

last time we heard from FACETOUCHER, he and his family had just been struck down by the RONA.   but the battle was far from lost, and Australia's plucky little experimental vocal improvisation battler returned from the brink of doom with a fresh batch of lung-powered soundscapery, brainfog or no.

in July, he recovered from the RONA just enough to comment on how Australia's hospitalised-with-COVID levels had just hit a new record, by releasing a new record, called A NEW RECORD:

in September, he released an album through new Brazilian label z0, called HYMNS OF THE INTUBATED.  the artist who runs the label described it thusly:

"Introducing FACETOUCHER from Australia. The artist's voice, which sounds far from a common voice, but rather a musical instrument, is improvised and combined with additional pre-recorded percussion sounds. A hybrid mix of Black Metal, Musique Concrète, IDM, Noise, Dark Ambient, Glitch and Post-Punk/Industrial. Delicate sound art or improvised deep meditation, without goals or limits."

also in September, he released a new album of noisier cuts on prodigious American noise label Basement Corner Emissions, called simply 😷 (if you need to call it something in words, perhaps "Face With Mask Emoji"?  who really knows?).  the artist who runs the label described it thusly:

"Another dose of sophisticated noise, drone and ambient from your favorite infection-themed project."

in October, the Australian Government decided to lift the requirement to stay home if you have the RONA.   so FACETOUCHER responded with the single one half-hour track called 
NOW, EVERY DAY IS 'BRING YOUR SICKNESS TO WORK' DAY!

also in October, FACETOUCHER accidentally found himself in the midst of a virulent mass of anti-vaxxers, protesting and marching and banging drums and chanting in the middle of the city.  so of course he recorded the march on his phone (the sound of which begins the first track on the album) and took photos of the signs they were holding, one of which not only became the cover of the album but the album title too.  the title of the release is:

NOT AN EXPERIMENT GENOCIDE & CONTROL

just baffling.

also in October, FACETOUCHER grouped together all of the tracks that had not been released on albums but had been distributed around the world on a variety of different "various artists"-type releases, from Melbourne's very own 3CR fundraiser to Russian noise tapes, to German collages for peace, to American noise compilations, to live performances for radio.  all finally in the one location, this release was called INDIRECT TRANSMISSION.

in December, FACETOUCHER decided to release a new album for the silly season, named DISEASON'S GREETINGS.   despite the timing and the yuletidey name, the release has nothing really to do with Xmas at all, is not at all Xmasy, and is really just an excuse to use a silly pun for the title.  CAN BE LISTENED TO ALL YEAR ROUND.

and a new year begins!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

of course, just as everyone is relaxing and ripping off their masks and frolicking with their loved ones in close-contact carefree abandon, we hear that the XBB.1.5 variant is "the most transmissible subvariant that has been detected yet", and has been detected in Australia.  

in a move that surprised no-one, FACETOUCHER immediately released the album XBB.1.5, this morning.
