Starlings present 'Orbits: traversing the sound sphere'

Melbourne's own troupe of immersive spatial sound composers, Starlings Spatial Sound Collective, will present a suite of new spatial compositions at RMIT's Black Box Theatre on November 16th, 2019.

With a spherical array of 26 speakers surrounding the listener, creating an encompassing, vivid world of sound, 'Orbits: Traversing the sound sphere' explores sound's ability to move through, inhabit, and create ever-transforming shapes in space.  From an infinitesimal grain of sound to the infinite scale of the cosmos, we invite the audience to explore, experience and become part of Starlings' sonic universe.

Orbits will feature the Australian debut of new compositions by Starlings members Lisa Rae Bartolomei, Gillian Lever and Josh Peters. Nillumbik Prize finalists Lisa Rae Bartolomei, David Coen, Donald Gray, Gillian Lever and Josh Peters will present a new collaborative work built from site specific recordings exploring the relationship between urban industrialism and natural ecologies. Completing this lineup of talented, Melbourne-based emerging artists, Starlings is proud to present a live diffusion by multimedia artist Keith W. Clancy.

‘Orbits: Traversing the sound sphere’ is presented in conjunction with RMIT’s SIAL Sound Studios.
