For this edition of MIUC we are thrilled to present three forays into
the sonoverse focussed on the singularly well-defined intentions of the
lone improviser courtesy of one expat, one interstater and one native. Will Guthrie
is an amazing Melbourne-fostered multivalent: consummate percussive
explorateur, one of the most formidable forces of Aussie improvdiaspora,
not to mention a Make It Up Club founder, so to miss one of his rare
local performances should not be an option. Updating the classic collaborations of Coltrane/Ali and Brotzmann/Bennink for the extreme metal millennia, Lloyd Honeybrook and Sean Baxter reprise their acoustic free jazz onslaught. And local
vocaliser Jenny Barnes presents a rarefied solo
extemporisation, rich in potential interpretations both adamantly
intended and spontaneously manifested.
