This week at the Make It Up Club we present three performance-based
interrogations of string-based music from three very distinct vantage
points. An all-too-rare Melbourne manifestation of DIY luminaries Bonnie Hart and Chris Nylstoch proffering their duo UnAustralians,
incorporating drum machine-generated seizures, terrifying vocals and
guitar devastation into the paragon of theatrical grindcore shreddery. Gearoid Brinn and Barnaby Oliver
highlight the fact that once, long ago, the guitar was more than a tone
generator for copious whizz-bang pedals - and there is still plenty of
beauty to be extracted directly from a reverberating wire. And recent
Hobart-emigré Tim Panaretos takes to the MIUC stage for
the first time in solo mode, channelling countless decades of ouzeri-
and tekedes-fuelled rembetika through psych rock sensibilities and
jazz-debunking debauchery (not to mention brain and fingers) sonified
via an electrified bouzouki.
