This week at Make It Up Club we interpolate into your Tuesday night
three intriguing examples of the immediate interaction between speaker,
ear, brain and hand for your internal processing, intellectual digestion
and personal interfusion. Polish-French
composer/improviser/musician/noisemaker Kasper T. Toeplitz's
work morphs seamlessly through the 'high' academic and 'low' sound art
scenes, dealing with post-Xenakian applications of formalised music and
the brutality of unbridled electronic noise - after presenting the
soundtrack for Breathing Monster, a dance work with leading
choreographer Myrian Gourfink for ISEA 2013, it would not be unwise to
expect the latter. We are lucky enough to have two distinct
international performers this evening, the second being German
soundsmithh Dirk Dresselhaus, perhaps best known for
his work as SchneiderTM and with Ilpo Väisänen as Angel. Having sold
out all shows at Dark Mofo over the past week, Dirk is traversing across
the Bass Strait to present Construction Sound, based on field
recordings of construction sites that he resided near, absorbed over a
period of nearly a decade, was driven to the brink of mental meltdown by
and finally realised was just another source of aleatorically
structured ''cosmic music''. And interstate guests Té, the improvisatory partnership of Sydneysider Andrew Brooks and Perthian Kynan Tan,
further explore the blurring between organic and electronic sound
production, coercing one acoustic and one digital sound source to
traverse the same sonic nowhere-land.
