This week's instalment of MIUC sees us paying (dis)respect to the
musical genre that introduced pure improvisation to most of the Western
world. Yoann Durant demolishes the space within his
saxophone with the physicality of his breath - and does so with the
upmost delicacy/precision and reckless brutality in the same breath.
Prepare for sublime free jazz catharsis as the quintet of Brett Evans, Tom Fryer, Rory Brown, Ali Watts and Damien Ellis
launch us into the sonoverse on an ecstatic ship powered by pure
distilled skronk. And a welcome addition to any edition of MIUC:
brilliantly staunch improviser Christopher Young will be filling in audiences on the latest results of the continued interrogation of his reed instruments.
• Yoann Durant (France) (Soprano Saxophone)
• Brett Evans (Tenor & Baritone Sax), Tom Fryer (Guitar), Rory Brown Double Bass), Ali Watts (Double Bass) and Damien Ellis (Drumkit)
• Christopher Young (Horns)
