aphids & undue noise present WAITING TO TURN INTO PUZZLE

WAITING TO TURN INTO PUZZLE is a collaboration between a film artist and a contemporary classical composer, performed by a live chamber group while the film is being projected

This collaboration between film artist Louise Curham and Melbourne composer David Young features an experimental hand-processed super 8 film shot in Yokohama Japan, which forms the basis of the musical score. This graphic music notation allows a certain freedom and spontaneity in the performance of the music which accompanies the film, whilst remaining precisely structured. The music is performed live by Melbourne contemporary chamber group Quiver

Quiver is a group of young musicians described by The Age as a ‘talent-rich new body’, who joined forces early in 2009 to pursue the exploration of sound through performance, improvisation and installation. They are dedicated to presenting refined interpretations of new and obscure scores, and have already commissioned works by contemporary Australian composers. Quiver completed a highly successful debut concert series in 2009 and was awarded the Alan C Memorial Fund and the Atheneum Award for excellence in chamber music through the Victorian College of the Arts.

Quiver are: Rebecca Lane - flute, Aviva Endean - clarinet, Luke Paulding - tuba, Matthias Schack-Arnott - percussion, Jess Fotinos - harp
