Tuesday April 3rd @ the Make It Up Club

This week marks the launch of our April residency featuring Judith Hamann and Carolyn Connors with a different percussionist over the next four Tuesdays. Hamann and Connors have forged a unique collaboration over the past year, fusing their individual virtuosity with extended cello and vocal techniques respectively. For this performance, they are joined by Joe Talia, undeniably Melbourne’s most accomplished and adventurous explorer of the electro-acoustic percussion tradition. Also, the unique vocal duo of Sophie Brous and Tarquin Manek, combining the rarefied and the absurd to create new expressions of voice improve. And, the transcendent delinquents of brutal improv, Disrupture return. Awesome!

Tuesday March 20th @ the Make It Up Club

This week traverses planar striation, jagged density and twisted dialogism. A premiere collaboration between two of Melbourne's great dadaesque sonic subverters, Bum Creek and Wife, combining the abstractions of Modernist sonic critique with a Postmodern celebration of the sonically absurd. Toby Brodel, one of the city's new voices in avant sound art, makes his solo debut. And, the power duo of Mic and Brian O'Dwyer, return with their unique fusion of stoner-doom-metal circumscribed by the intensity of free jazz.

Bum Creek and Wife (outsider genius), featuring: Tarquin Manek (breath and clatter), Samaan Fieck (amped), Trev Clay (keyz), Eric Demetriou (analogue displacement), Sam Karmel (electricity)
Toby Brodel (guitar and voice)
Warpigs, featuring: Brian O'Dwyer (drumkit) and Mic O'Dwyer (guitar)

Scattered Order – Melbourne shows – April 2012

Since their formation in 1979 Sydney post/punk band Scattered Order have been confounding listeners with their non-stick, genre bending ideas of noise and tune.

After numerous releases, line-up changes and long periods of hibernation Scattered Order re-emerged in 2009 with original members Mitch Jones and Michael Tee.

With the addition of Shane Fahey (ex The Makers of the Dead Travel Fast) 2011 brought more performances and 2 releases. "It's behind you" recorded live at Megaphon studios, with it's crazed combination of doomed rhythms, fuzzed up bass, dental drill guitars, incomparable synthy looseness and found sounds and the EP "A solar rush towards a treble heaven".

SO prepare yourself for several different approaches to Scattered Order's sonic assault of loops, samples, synthesisers, guitars and video projections from Living Science Dept .....

A noise set....Saturday 21st April

Infinite Decimals album launch - Gasometer - 1 Apr 2012

Infinite Decimals
The Donkey's Tale
Raymond Scottwalker

Sunday 1 April (doors open 8pm)
Gasometer, 484 Smith Street (cnr Alexandra Pde), Collingwood.

After just over two years of musical output, Infinite Decimals issue via Fallopian Tunes their most complete release to date; three studio pieces (recorded at Sound Park Studios) and an extended live cut taken from a performance at Melbourne's Loop Space in 2011.

True to the band's usual approach, all tracks were created from unedited, improvised, live recordings, using combinations of guitar, bass, piano and drums. Enhanced and mixed at Infinite Decimals' studio using their own unique production techniques, the result is a collection of pure and spacious landscapes probing the boundaries between music and noise as only they know how.

The group are completed as always by improv visual artist Paul Rogers, combining his inimitable visual synaesthetica to create an unrepeatable multi sensory performance like nothing you've experienced.Added attractions on the night are the eclectic, indescribable The Donkey's Tail and laptop maestro / sonic manipulator Raymond Scottwalker (collaborating with VHS tape warping, granular crushing visual artist Deadv).

Dead Boomers 'The Pig In The Python' 12" Launch

The Pig In The Python is the debut album from Dead Boomers, following short run cassette and compact disc recordable releases on Sabbatical. The prospect of an aging population dominates these ominous narratives, exploring anxious visions of a seemingly inevitable future. Divided into two distinct segments, the lurid forecasts of the album A side are comprised of rhythm and vocal led blasts that have defined recent live performances - while the B side features a series of heavy electronic themes. Familiar elements within the duo's arsenal remain in these pieces, augmented by gestures new to the project. The Pig In The Python was recorded to 1/4'' tape with Neil Thomason at Head Gap, and mastered by Kris Lapke.

Format: 12'' / Edition of 300

As part of an extensive and diverse lineup for Labour Day Weekend, Sabbatical will be presenting the launch of 'The Pig In The Python'. Saturday 10 March at KIPL 135 Roden Street West Melbourne.

Melbourne heads - for those of you with an interest in picking up a copy of the album prior to the launch, copies are now in stock at Polyester Records, Ritual Music and Round & Round.
