Order & chaos, ecstatic free noise, melodic abstractions, Max/MSP patches and of course analogue and digital mediums are our themes for the night.

DISCOBEANS MONDAY - 4th July 2011

 + BISCOTTI
Baking wonky beats that will break your knees and groove lines that will simmer until you are boiling. Kooky, colourful cocktail of sounds and dance with recipes from around the world and special home secrets.

+ SPASMOSLOP
Bruce McDarryl: Demented voiceboxisms, blown-out beats, mondo manic static, subsonic gut massages, malfunctioning cyborg errors and fuck knows what else.

+ PORPOISE TORTURE
Dark tape sounds, manipulation and grimisms of the voice from Christopher L.G. Hill (KRYSTOFFKRVSTOFFISTON, MOFFARFARRAH, GUGG, GAUNTLET etc.) No porpoises will be harmed during this performance.

+ ERNIE ALTHOFF
Ernie Althoff has been performing experimental music in Melbourne for 33 years. The fact that some of his audience aren't even that old themselves indicates some kind of perseverance and/or survival skillbase that he sees as a good thing! He may bring some electrically powered music machines, and other assorted bits and pieces with which to do sonic things at table height.

+ ENDLESS BEAUTY
Awkward no-wave.

(forwarded from Neumusak):
---------------
Neumusak is excited to present original Melbourne (via Adelaide) post-punk icon and current member of Einstruzende Neubauten member (and has been for the past 14 years), ASH WEDNESDAY. In Melbourne for a one-off free show, with support from maverick Mexican sound artist, Jorge Ramirez - next Thursday (23rd June) @ Bar Open in Brunswick St, Fitzroy!

Having been a member of The Models (when they were good) and Crashland in the 80s/90s, among others, Ash returns from committments in Europe for this free show, promising to perform his audio-visual set which he describes as taking "an improvised tonal journey into the unexpected, into the unknown, perhaps, into a here and now where vibration paints a picture, a cerebral dance. Sound synthesis meets music concrete". Got it, get it!

Check his wiki entry for more backround - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday_(musician)
His official website: http://www.ash-wednesday.com/

Supporting him for this one night is touring Mexican audio-visual artist Jorge Ramirez, using a unique blend of these mediums. Jorge is in Melbourne for a short visit as an extension of his tour through Asia. Some sounds and visuals from Jorge can be found on his website: http://www.jorge-ramirez.com/

Tuesday June 14th @ the Make It Up Club

After over a month of high densities, intense volumes and maximalism in it's extremes, this week MIUC is focusing on the rarefied and refined. Featuring four musicians renowned for their their explorations of the extended possibilities inherent in their respective instruments, and for their attention to microscopic sonic details and engagements with silence, two duets will frame short solos by each, in a concert of focused listening.

New cassettes available on Shame File Music

Brand new Undecisive God cassette released on Altered States "RPMs 2" continues my developing series of prepared turntable experiments within a basic compositional structure. Also on the B-side are further pieces for turntables as well as guitar and vocals. Ltd edition of 40 copies, professionally produced. More in the RPMs series coming soon with a Shame File Music CD release...

Dick Threats "Meat Cash" cassette - "Meat Cash" is built from a series of quick cut movements, each hinged on overdriven and abused rhythms. Pounding industrial noise filth and simple analogue electronics colour movement throughout, though often these gestures are pushed into a sweaty alliance with an ecstatic pulse seeking physical interpretation. The Dick Threats modus operandi: low fidelity dance noise (ltd edition of 100).

Von Einem/Screwtape cassette - Screwtape's split series continues with Von Einem, Mark Groves (you may also know him from Dick Threats and Dead Boomers) new solo noise project that takes its theme and name from a series of murders that took place in South Australia. Screwtape's side is a solid chunk of distortion and feedback that nearly completely (but not quite) obscures the voice-based samples that lay beneath. Limited edition of 100 copies.

All three cassettes are available from Shame File Music in limited quantities, so be quick.

Tuesday June 7th @ the Make It Up Club

Three very different acts this week at MIUC, all of whom are immersed in the outer regions of their respective sonic traditions. Instrument builder extraordinaire, Rod Cooper returns after an intensive tour of the USA with a performance of high-tensile springage and honest electronic mediation. Sydney composer and electronics improviser, Marcus Whale (Scissor Lock, Collarbones, etc) makes a welcome appearance in solo guise after a sublimely raucous collaboration with Cleptocleptics at Sydney's High Reflections series. And the masters of art bruit, punk jazz, Dead Ants are back in their classic trio form for a rare appearance of free skronk virtuosity.
